A Snapshot of Legislative Shifts (2023–2025)

This list was originally shared by Tania Waikato after a kōrero about voter enrolment and the importance of understanding what has changed over the last two years.

When asked whether there was a list of laws passed that have been detrimental to Māori, the response was simple:
There is a lot.

The images abovr are not exhaustive. They are a snapshot. A reminder that policy does not sit in isolation — it shapes our health systems, our whenua, our language, our tamariki, and our representation in governance.

Some of these decisions directly alter Māori rights and protections.
Others indirectly shift the structures that support Māori wellbeing.

This is not shared to inflame.
It is shared to inform.

In te ao Māori, leadership carries whakapapa. Decisions carry consequence. When legislation changes, it ripples through whānau and generations.

We encourage whānau to:

  • Understand what has changed

  • Engage in informed kōrero

  • Ensure enrolment before 25 October

  • Participate in civic processes

This is a marathon, not a sprint.
Awareness is part of participation.
