Marama Davidson

Marama Davidson is of Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāti Tahinga descent — born in Tāmaki Makaurau to two young urban Māori activists. Activism is in her whakapapa. She was raised by that same fierce love for people and it has never left her.

Before parliament, she spent a decade at the Human Rights Commission and served as Chief Panelist for the Glenn Inquiry into Domestic Violence and Child Abuse. That mahi placed family violence and the wellbeing of the most vulnerable at the centre of everything she has done since. In 2020 she became Aotearoa's first ever Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence — a role that did not exist before her.

Now co-leader of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand alongside Chlöe Swarbrick, Marama has been a consistent and unwavering voice for Te Tiriti o Waitangi — never framing it as a barrier, but as the foundation. The ground beneath housing, health, justice, environment, and the collective wellbeing of everyone who calls this place home.
