Annette Sykes

Annette Te Imaima Sykes of Ngāti Pikiao and Ngāti Mākino is a lawyer and human rights activist who has spent over 35 years fighting for Māori rights, constitutional change, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. She specialises in Waitangi Tribunal cases and is a member of the Māori Law Commission, which works to restore Māori systems of law and custom as the first law of this land. She has represented Māori in United Nations forums, fought to ensure Te Tiriti is respected in international trade negotiations, and has been honoured with the Access to Justice Award in recognition of her decades of fearless advocacy. Ko ia tētahi o ngā reo kaha rawa atu mō ngā tika Māori — she is one of the most powerful voices for Māori rights this country has.
